XII Dr E V Vaithilingam Memorial Scientific Session

One of the main activities of ESO in encouraging research in optometry is the annual conference on vision science and optometry, in the fond memory of Late Dr E Vaithilingam, the Principal of ESO

The Twelfth Dr E Vaithilingam Memorial Scientific Session was conducted on the 17th March, 2013 at the V D Swami Auditorium, Sankara Nethralaya. There were 300 participants from 11 Colleges all over the country. The theme of the session was “Social accountability” where an inspiring talk on “Social accountability in health care education” was given by Dr Anand Zachariah from CMC Vellore. Dr Namita Jacob, from Chetna Foundation gave a talk on “Social accountability of Optometrists in Low vision care”. Prof. Pichaimuthu, Professor of Principles of Lighting shared his view and association with Dr. E. Vaithilingam.

There were 72 abstracts selected for the session. The conference had initiated “Thematic Interactive Scientific Sessions” and each participant was allocated in the following fields:

03. Visual acuity charts
04. Glaucoma & Diagnostics
05. Innovations in Optometric Education
06. Community Awareness
07. Cornea and External eye disease
08. Low Vision Care
09. Cataract
10. Refractive error
11. Retinal Disease & Diagnostics
12. Binocular Vision & Vision Therapy

All the sessions were run as parallel interactive scientific presentations. The best presentation on each session was presented to the audience. It was a successful event and was received well by the crowd. A summary of the group discussions containing the salient features of different research area was given as a consolidated report for the benefit of all the participants.

Essilor India Private Ltd has instituted Travel grants for 10 eligible researchers beginning this year. Vision Rx, Hoya, Vakil & co & Shoham Low vision aids were the other generous sponsors of the session. The session was also web cast for the benefit of people who could not be present for the session.

EIVOC- Elite School of optometry International Vision Science and optometry Conference

An international conference hosted by ESO every 5 years. Delegates from international community and alumni participate in this unique event.
